A month into his service in Congress, U.S. Rep. Aaron Bean, R-Fla., announced he will serve on three subcommittees under the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Bean will serve on the U.S. House Aviation, Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation and the Highways and Transit Subcommittees.

“I am excited to welcome Congressman Bean to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee,” said U.S. Rep. Sam Graves, R-Mo., the chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “I am confident he will be a valuable member of our Committee as we work to develop solutions to improve our infrastructure, strengthen transportation programs, and help alleviate ongoing energy and supply chain problems on behalf of the American people.”

“I am honored to serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee under the leadership of Chairman Sam Graves,” said Bean. “Northeast Florida is ‘America’s Logistics Center.’ We are home to an international airport system, two deep-water ports, three major highways, and the intersection of major railroad routes. I look forward to serving on these important subcommittees to deliver real results for our region.”

Bean’s office offered the following information on his subcommittee assignments:

Subcommittee on Aviation

The Subcommittee on Aviation has jurisdiction over all aspects of civil aviation, including safety, infrastructure, labor, commerce, and international issues. All programs of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), except for research activities, are within the purview of the Subcommittee.

Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation

The Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation conducts oversight of the United States Coast Guard, the Service responsible for enforcing the Nation’s laws on waters under U.S. jurisdiction and on the high seas. The Coast Guard’s many missions include search and rescue, illegal drug and migrant interdiction, oil spill prevention and response, maritime safety and security, maintaining aids to navigation, icebreaking, and enforcement of U.S. fisheries and marine pollution laws. The Subcommittee also has jurisdiction over regulation of ocean shipping and the merchant marine, except as it relates to national security.

Subcommittee on Highways and Transit

The Subcommittee on Highways and Transit has responsibility for the development of national surface transportation policy, including policies related to the construction and improvement of highway and transit facilities, of safety and research programs, and regulation of commercial motor vehicle operations. Within this scope of responsibilities, the Subcommittee has jurisdiction over many U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) programs and modal administrations.

Based out of Nassau County, Bean has served in both chambers of the Florida Legislature, rising to become state Senate president pro tempore. Bean represents a solidly Republican district on the First Coast.
