Last week, U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., weighed in on his trip to Puerto Rico earlier this month as the island recovers from earthquakes.
Earlier in January, U.S. Rep. Jenniffer González-Colón, R-PR, joined U.S. Reps. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., Posey and Donna Shalala, D-Fla., in touring the island. Posey offered his take on it last week.
“Because of the structural damage to their homes, thousands of residents are living in their cars or tents set up in their yards,” said Posey. “It’s a miracle that despite the destruction caused by these massive earthquakes only one fatality was recorded.”
“Although Puerto Rico is bordered by four fault lines, these were the first major earthquakes in over 100 years. Geologists and seismologists say future events are completely unpredictable,” the congressman’s office noted.
Posey noted that FEMA is partnering with National Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) to help Puerto Rico.
“Hopefully our visit will reassure those in Puerto Rico that we are full partners in their recovery,” Posey said.
