On Wednesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis and state Department of Education (DOE) Commissioner Richard Corcoran revealed which school districts, universities, colleges and private institutions have been awarded the Florida Pathways to Career Opportunities Grant.

According to the institute, the report, labeled “Florida Charter Schools: Not as Good, Or as Bad, as Advertised,” offered mixed marks on charter schools delivering “both good and not good news to critics and supporters of charter schools alike” since, “in terms of segregation, location and student performance, charter schools are very similar to traditional schools.”

Castor said the funds come from the $2.2 trillion stimulus package that the White House and Congress agreed on at the end of last month and will go to the University of South Florida (USF), University of Tampa and Hillsborough Community College.

Through one-on-one interviews and surveys in both English and Spanish, the Lastinger Center for Learning will interview students, parents, teachers and administrators across Florida on how the pandemic impacted education.

By hosting the CIMAS, the university can expect an award of up to $310 million during the next five years. 

For the more than 2.7 million students enrolled in Florida schools, virtual learning has made both school and home life increasingly difficult. Florida moms saw our kids lose their energy and enthusiasm for learning. 

Lawson said on Thursday that the National Science Foundation (NSF) will send $943,266 to JU. The funds will come through NSF’s Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program.

The U.S. Department of Education made these funds available to Florida on January 6 but they have not yet been allocated to benefit students and schools.
