The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) Board of Directors, which leads one of the premier business groups in the Sunshine State, announced on Thursday that it was throwing its support behind the Republican ticket for state Cabinet offices. 

The Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) unveiled two TV spots on Thursday, going to bat for former U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., the GOP’s gubernatorial candidate in the Sunshine State. 

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum launched a new TV commercial showcasing his background, while DeSantis unveiled his environmental plan this week and reeled in the support of environmentalist and former Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioner Ron Bergeron.

Those funds represent 90 percent of the $2.15 million used to clean up debris in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma a year ago.

On Tuesday, Spectrum News 13 released a poll of likely voters taken by Survey USA which showed Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, the Democratic nominee, with a slight lead over former U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla. 

The two candidates running to be Florida’s next lieutenant governor are taking on the traditional role of running mates: going on the attack. 

Baxley, who represents all of Sumter County and parts of Lake and Marion Counties, announced that he had the backing of the National Rifle Association (NRA) Political Victory Fund and Unified Sportsmen of Florida. The NRA gave Baxley, the author of Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, an “A+"rating.
