Not surprisingly, DeSantis garnered the applause of officials he appointed to his administration. Just as predictably, DeSantis drew jeers and fire from the left. 
With the Legislature kicking off its regular session on Tuesday, DeSantis returned to the themes that he stressed in the campaign including the “economic opportunities that lie before us,”  the “environmental challenges that require our attention” and “our obligations to education and public safety.”
Party lines mostly held with 13 Republicans--including U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney of Florida--joining 232 Democrats to pass the resolution.
DeSantis, an ally of President Donald Trump, also called for law enforcement to work closer with the federal government to uphold immigration laws. 
Following the lead of several Florida Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill, Scott said on Tuesday the time has come to extend TPS to Venezuelans.  
With President Donald Trump planning to use executive action to fund building a wall on the southern border to control illegal immigration without congressional approval, members of the U.S. House representing Florida took sides on mostly partisan lines.
