Charlie Crist: Appropriations Subcommittee Assignments Will Boost Pinellas County

Starting his second term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., plans to use some new assignments to help his Pinellas County District.

After being named to the U.S. House Appropriations Committee last week, Crist added a few new perches this week as he is now sitting on some of the Appropriations subcommittees.

Crist will serve on the Defense; the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies; and the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittees.

The second term congressman insisted his new positions will help Tampa Bay and the Sunshine State in general.

“These subcommittees oversee funding for programs critical to Pinellas County, the Tampa Bay region, and entire state – from the defense industry, to harmful algal bloom research, to veterans treatment court programs,” Crist said. “I am thankful for this opportunity to serve as the people’s voice, fighting for the programs directly impacting the lives of Floridians and vital to moving our communities forward.”

Crist noted his perch on the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee will help Pinellas County since many defense companies do business there and the local workforce supports MacDill Air Force Base. The congressman also pointed out that his new seat on the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Committee will help on medical marijuana and toxic algae issues.
