At the end of last week, U.S. Rep. Donna Shalala, D-Fla., announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is sending almost $1.8 million to the Miami Beach Community Health Center (MBHCC).
Shalala, who led HHS for eight years as part of President Bill Clinton’s Cabinet, weighed in on Friday on HHS sending $1,787,956 to MBHCC. The funds were part of the $2.2 trillion stimulus package that the White House and Congress agreed on at the end of March.
“When Congress passed the CARES Act, we made sure to provide funding so that community health centers could continue to provide the critical services they offer to vulnerable populations,” Shalala said on Friday.
“Now that businesses across the country have closed their doors and tens of millions have lost their jobs, the work that community health centers do is more important than ever,” she added.
Shalala’s office noted that under the CARES Act, MBHCC had already received $1.9 million in federal funds.
