At the end of last week, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced more than $1 million for two Native American tribes in the Sunshine State.

The Seminole Tribe of Florida in Hollywood will get $1,000,208 from HUD. Miccosukee Tribe in Miami will get $74,406.

The funds come from more than $652 million in Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) funds for more than 600 Native American Tribes and Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs) for affordable housing.

“The Indian Housing Block Grant program supports the commitment of tribes across the country to their communities through funding affordable housing and housing activities,” said Acting U.S. HUD Secretary Matthew Ammon on Friday.

“The U.S. government has a responsibility to carry out trust obligations to Indian tribes, and with this funding, HUD is acting to meet these obligations,” Ammon added.
