On Thursday, U.S. Rep. John Rutherford, R-Fla., a longtime law enforcement officer who served three terms as sheriff of Duval County, has helped relaunch the House Law Enforcement Caucus.
Rutherford and U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-NJ, will lead the group which was originally formed in 1994. According to Rutherford’s office, the caucus will “serve as a clearinghouse for information and grants, and a sounding board for ideas addressing the law enforcement community.”
“As a former sheriff and career police officer, it is an honor to advocate on behalf of America’s law enforcement community,” said Rutherford. “Over the last few years, our nation and the caucus has engaged in substantial policy debates regarding law enforcement training, practices, and oversight. I look forward to joining Congressman Pascrell in the 117th Congress as we work together in a bipartisan way to support law enforcement and the communities they serve.”
“Law enforcement officers serve every community in the United States and so providing them with the federal resources and the support they need is among the most important work we can do to keep our neighbors safe,” said Pascrell. “Building dialogue between law enforcement and our communities is at the heart of the work of the Law Enforcement Caucus. This Congress, the caucus will redouble our efforts to boost community policing to strengthen the bonds between all Americans and law enforcement.”
First elected to Congress in 2016, Rutherford represents all of Nassau County and parts of Duval and St. Johns Counties.
Rutherford sits on the U.S. House Appropriations and the Ethics Committees.

The guards at county jails need more training, less unconcern for inmates rights and health issues, overcrowding, unhealthy atmosphere with no ability to go outside &/or exercise, horrible food, etc.
