Marco Rubio Ahead of Val Demings in New Poll of Senate Race in Florida

A new poll from Institute of Politics (IOP) at Florida State University (FSU) and conducted by YouGov shows U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., ahead of U.S. Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., ahead of Tuesday’s election.

The poll shows Rubio with 51 percent and Demings behind at 44 percent.

White voters go to Rubio 57 percent to 39 percent while African American voters go for Demings 72 percent to 12 percent. The candidates are running almost dead even with both Hispanics and female voters with Demings edging Rubio by 1 percent with the two groups. Rubio has an 11 percent lead with voters outside the major parties.

The poll of 1,117 likely voters in Florida was taken from Oct. 20 through Oct. 31 and had a margin of error of +/- 3.68 percent.
