Rick Scott Repeats Call for Kamala Harris, Cabinet to Explore Invoking 25th Amendment Against Biden

At the end of last week, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. pointed to the setbacks in Afghanistan and urged “Vice President Kamala Harris and members of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet to take action on the serious and extremely warranted question of whether Biden is fit to lead as America’s commander in chief, and consider invoking the 25th Amendment.”

Scott raised the issue on social media two weeks ago and returned to it on Friday.

“On August 16, as the world watched the Taliban rapidly take Afghanistan due directly to Joe Biden’s failed withdrawal of U.S. forces, I urged the nation to confront a serious question: Is Joe Biden capable of discharging the duties of his office or has time come to exercise the provisions of the 25th Amendment? Now, 11 days later and following the tragic loss of 13 American service members in a heartbreaking, predictable and preventable terrorist attack, I am again urging Vice President Harris and the cabinet to put politics aside, act in the best interests of the American people and consider invoking the 25th Amendment. I do not say this lightly or with any pleasure. I hope Joe Biden is okay and strong enough to lead, but there is no tolerance for uncertainty here. The office of president of the United States is the most powerful in the world and it demands total accountability,” Scott said.

“President Biden’s failure to safely withdraw American troops and our allies from Afghanistan has created mass chaos and tremendous danger and bloodshed. If yesterday’s horrific loss of life wasn’t painful enough, we also have learned that Biden’s administration shared names of Americans and our Afghan allies with the Taliban – inexplicably threatening the lives of even more of our own citizens and allies stranded behind enemy lines. His actions continue to defy logic and must be answered for. It’s clear he is not fit to lead. While I continue to call for a full congressional investigation, before even more is lost and damage is done, we must have accountability for the president’s misguided and dangerous actions,” Scott added.

More Republicans on Capitol Hill are calling for Biden to resign including U.S. Reps. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., and Byron Donalds, R-Fla.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki weighed in on these calls on Friday.

“I want to know if the White House has any reaction to the swath of Republican lawmakers who are now calling on the president to resign over this,” a member of the media said on Friday.

“I have to say that seeing some of this occur, or be called for, or be put out on Twitter — you know, the backdrop here is the U.S. men and women of the military deployed on the ground are bravely continuing to implement a mission to save lives on the ground — American citizens, Afghan partners, many people that some of these same individuals are calling for us to evacuate,” Psaki said. “Yesterday, they lost 13 of their own, and the president made absolutely clear that we are going to hunt down, go after, and kill the terrorists who are responsible. Everyone should be supportive of that.”

“So you’re saying now is not the time for politics?” the member of the media asked.

“Correct,’ Psaki replied.
