Florida Sheriffs Research Institute Unveils Report on Violent, Repeat Drug Offenders in State Prisons
On Tuesday, the Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) Research Institute sent all members of the Florida Legislature their newest report “Repeat Drug-Offenders in Prison: Not Your Low-Level, Non-Violent Offender.”
At the event, Patronis announced that during the 2021 Legislative Session, he will support Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “Combatting Violence, Disorder Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act” and will oppose any cuts to the state budget that impacts partnerships with local law enforcement.
The FSA held in-person and online courses for newly-elected Florida sheriffs giving them the chance to learn best practices and work with leaders from across the Sunshine State.
“Our right to peacefully assemble is one of our most cherished as Americans, but throughout the country we’ve seen that right being taken advantage of by professional agitators, bent on sowing disorder and causing mayhem in our cities,” said DeSantis. “I will not allow this kind of violence to occur here in Florida. The legislation announced today will not only combat rioting and looting, but also protect the men and women in law enforcement that wake up every day to keep us safe. I look forward to working with the Florida Legislature next session to sign this proposal into law.”
The Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA) and the Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) announced on Tuesday that they are designating the month of September to honor the service and sacrifice of Florida law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2020, including those who have succumbed to COVID-19 while protecting our communities, and raise awareness of the specific ongoing threat to officers from the COVID-19 virus.
