“Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind,” the governor told a joint session of the Florida Legislature while talking about what has happened in the lockdown states. “While so many other states kept locking people down, Florida lifted people up.”
On Tuesday, with the start of the 2021 legislative session, Gov. Ron DeSantis offered his State of the State address.
The proposed legislation would place strategic safeguards against foreign influence by strengthening institutional vetting and applying strategic protections for Florida’s education system, governmental entities and more. The legislation would also bolster Florida’s law enforcement agencies to investigate and apply penalties for corporate espionage that benefits a foreign government.
With solid Republican majorities in both chambers, Gov. Ron DeSantis, state House Speaker Chris Sprowls, R-Palm Harbor, and state Senate President Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby, should not face many challenges from the Democrats. But there will be problems in the days to come, especially as DeSantis pushes a $96.6 proposed budget which includes $625 million for Everglades restoration and a new “Resilient Florida” program to deal with climate change with $1 billion in bonds over the next four years.
The Drug Policy Advisory Council coordinates drug control efforts for the entire State of Florida by educating the public on substance abuse and the resources available.
“The Southern States Energy Board was enacted by Congress in 1960 to enhance economic and innovations in energy and environment programs. Sixteen southern states and two territories are represented on the Board, with each governor and two legislators from each delegation,” the speaker’s office noted.
At the end of last week, state Rep. Adrian Zika, R-Land O’Lakes, introduced the “Portraits in Patriotism Act" with the backing of state House Speaker Chris Sprowls, R-Palm Harbor.
