DeSantis brought out the “Civic Literacy Excellence Initiative” and is calling for $106 million from the Legislature to enact it. The governor wants to use funds from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund included in the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation (CRRSA) Act.
The U.S. Department of Education made these funds available to Florida on January 6 but they have not yet been allocated to benefit students and schools.
The schools are getting the funds from the $900 billion “Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act” which Congress passed last month and which then President Donald Trump signed into law.
