Gary Peters’, D-Mich., “DHS Industrial Control Systems Capabilities Enhancement Act” which “would require the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to ensure they can better identify and mitigate threats to Industrial Control Systems, the operational technology involved in operating the function of critical infrastructure networks, including pipelines, water supply and electric utilities.”

Last week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., urged Superintendent of Miami Dade County Public Schools Alberto Carvalho to take advantage of federal resources available to assist in the school system’s efforts to secure its networks, including virtual classrooms, after they announced that its virtual learning platform was the target of 12 cyberattacks.

In his role as acting chairman of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, on Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., requested a briefing on cybersecurity from U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Acting Sec. Chad Wolf after Miami Dade County Public Schools announced that its virtual learning platform was the target of 12 cyberattacks. 

Rubio’s office noted that the bill “would strengthen economic competitiveness, expand safeguards for physical and digital infrastructure, and address human rights abuses from digital surveillance technologies in Latin America and the Caribbean" and is “the first comprehensive effort to improve U.S. economic engagement and diplomatic presence, and address the Government of China’s economic, political, security, and intelligence activities in the region.”

Back in March, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., threw his support behind U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley’s, R-Mo., proposal making sure federal employees do not have TikTok on their smartphones.

U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., is also backing the proposal which was sent to the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Thursday.

The governor’s office outlined the achievements in areas Nuñez oversees.
