This past legislative session, Patronis supported an increase in state funding for pandemic protections for firefighters via the agency's existing Cancer Decontamination Grant Program, so fire departments can buy lifesaving equipment to further protect firefighters from infectious diseases, such as COVID-19.
Baxley’s bill “revamps postsecondary financial aid programs to maximize value for the student and for Florida taxpayers through a focus on targeted programs that directly lead to employment.”
“It is an honor to have many of my fellow Senators, as well as leaders in our communities and state, serve in these important capacities,” said Simpson on Friday. “I have full confidence that they will diligently and effectively represent the Florida Senate and the state of Florida.”
Simpson also named chairs and vice chairs for the other committees though he plans to name members to the committees in the days to come.
The award is given to officials who show “a steadfast commitment to restore citizen government through term limits.”
Chris Strickland, the former director of the Office of the Sheriff in St. Johns County and now running for the sheriff post in 2020, went to bat for the pro-life cause and cited his own personal experience.
“It’s time for us to face our history of the last 46 years and the 60 million faces of our offspring that we have extinguished,” Baxley, who once led the Florida Christian Coalition, said. “The heartbeat has always been the clear signal of the presence of life, and that life must be protected.”
Baxley, who represents all of Sumter County and parts of Lake and Marion Counties, announced that he had the backing of the National Rifle Association (NRA) Political Victory Fund and Unified Sportsmen of Florida. The NRA gave Baxley, the author of Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, an “A+"rating.
