Florida GOP Congressmen Back Suzanne Bonamici’s Blue Carbon For Our Planet Act
According to Bonamici’s office, the bill “will strengthen federal research on blue carbon and take steps to protect and restore coastal blue carbon ecosystems" by creating a “national map and inventory of coastal blue carbon ecosystems and their sequestration potential, study the effects of climate change and other environmental stressors on rates of carbon sequestration, improve and expand protections for existing coastal blue carbon ecosystems, and restore degraded ecosystems.”
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Don Young Team Up to Push for $3 Billion for Coastline Projects
U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, D-Fla., brought out the “Shovel-Ready Restoration Grants for Coastlines and Fisheries Act” on Friday and she showcased it this week. U.S. Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, the longest-serving Republican in the U.S. House’s history and the current dean of the House, is the lead cosponsor of the proposal.
Charlie Crist Wants Military Bases Protected From Floods, Rising Sea Levels
U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., added the amendment to the House version of the NDAA. According to Crist’s office, the amendment “requires the military to work with agencies like NOAA and NASA that track our changing climate, to incorporate flooding and sea level rise projections into their plans for building new military installations and fortifying current ones.”
