This EDA grant, to be matched with $1 million in local funds, is expected to create hundreds of jobs and generate $150 million in private investment.

Announcing the funds at an event on Thursday afternoon, Ross reviewed Leon County’s efforts in developing technology, praising the area as a “nucleus for innovation.” Ross said the project--which includes $6.8 million in local investments--will create 639 new jobs in a “high growth industry" over the next ten years. The facility itself will be finished by 2023.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) announced on Thursday $10 million in state and federal funds is now available through the Rebuild Florida Business Loan Fund to help small businesses still recovering from Hurricane Michael to rebuild and expand. Hurricane Michael hit the Panhandle and the Big Bend back in October 2018.

With an additional $4.5 million in local funds, the 45,000 square foot center and is expected to create more than 460 jobs and add an additional $66 million to the local economy. 

According to the governor’s office, the new program “can provide up to $500,000 in financing for the following business purposes: inventory purchases, construction or renovation, working capital needs, capital start-up loans, machinery and equipment purchases, equipment financing and more.”
