"Gas prices have held relatively steady through the first half of April," said Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA and the Auto Club Group. "However, some upward pressure appears to be moving back into the market, which could affect prices at the pump. Oil prices jumped 6 percent last week, in hopes that demand will continue to grow due to increased COVID-19 vaccinations, lower jobless claims in the U.S. and rising consumer sentiment."
While the price of gas rose across the Sunshine State in the past week, AAA expects it to drop in the coming days.
While gas prices are the lowest they have been in Florida for four months, AAA expects prices at the pump to start going up again this week thanks in large part to a surge in crude oil prices which increased almost $5 a barrel last week.
Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA and the Auto Club Group, sounded an optimistic note on Monday, noting the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects gas prices to be less expensive this summer than last year.
