On Monday, Mast showcased the “Prioritizing Revised Operations To Eliminate Cyanobacteria Toxins in Florida (“PROTECT Florida”) Act which “requires the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to prioritize public health, including prevention of toxic cyanobacteria, the integrity of the Herbert Hoover Dike, Everglades restoration and tribal water quality laws.”
“Thanks to the leadership of Governor DeSantis and the support of our legislative leaders, Florida is making historic investments in our environment,” said Valenstein.
U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Oreg., the chairman of the committee, and U.S. Rep. Grace Napolitano, D-Calif., the chairwoman of the subcommittee, announced the promotion on Thursday.
U.S. House Appropriations Committee leadership “urging House appropriators to fully fund Everglades restoration and water quality infrastructure projects.”
Trump’s proposed budget includes $63 million for Everglades restoration, far short of the $200 million that Gov. Ron DeSantis and U.S. Sens. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and Rick Scott, R-Fla., asked for.
"We cannot allow our efforts to be derailed once again by petty and vindictive politics."
The decision won the applause of the Everglades Foundation and other environmental groups.
DeSantis called for $360 million each year for Everglades restoration.

On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney, R-Fla., sent a letter to President Donald Trump, which every member of the Florida delegation signed.
"The protection of water resources is one of the most pressing issues facing our state. That’s why today I'm taking immediate action to combat the threats which have devastated our local economies and threatened the health of our communities."
