Posey brought out the “Pedestrian Safety Study Act” with the help of U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., who is cosponsoring the proposal which they claim will “help protect the safety of pedestrians, motorists and residents along the high-speed rail corridor being constructed on Florida’s East Coast.”
Soto is backing more funds for Amtrak, including supporting a proposal from U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Oreg., which would increase Amtrak funding by $29 million in the next five years.
State Sen. Debbie Mayfield, R-Indialantic, and state Rep. Tyler Sirois, R-Merritt Island, teamed up on the “Florida High-Speed Passenger Rail Safety Act” which “incorporates recommendations identified in a study commissioned by the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA).”
“Northeast Florida, with its intricate network of railways, highways, and ports, remains a hotbed for federal investment and economic growth,” said Rutherford. “Following other major awards to the region, this grant will ease congestion downtown and clear rail obstructions near major hospitals.
