The joint effort between Moody’s office and FLHSMV is funded through a U.S. Department of Transportation grant issued to FLHSMV to help train drivers and raise awareness about human trafficking on America’s roadways.
“As deputy CFO, Jones will be responsible for divisions encompassing sworn law enforcement, including Investigative and Forensic Services, Public Assistance Fraud and Workers’ Compensation, which all work to prosecute insurance fraud,” the CFO’s office noted.
This week, Moody sent 300 letters statewide to sheriffs, police chiefs and federal agency heads urging law enforcement participation in the Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentorship program, Bigs in Blue. This successful program already has hundreds of dedicated volunteers and by expanding participation amongst law enforcement, it will help create more valuable mentor relationships between at-risk kids and the officers who serve their communities.
The campaign, Highway Heroes, involves a multimedia campaign, outreach materials mailed directly to commercial driver license holders and a new website with resources to educate drivers on how to identify victims and report suspected human trafficking.
Moody announced that LexisNexis Coplogic Solutions Inc. will pay almost $10 million to resolve allegations that the company engaged in a systematic pattern of underreporting the number of motor vehicle crash reports it sold through a contract with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).
“Currently, a motorist’s information can be obtained in multiple ways. This bill aims to expand protections by limiting access by certain entities to crash reports and traffic citations. Individuals will also be able to request certain information not be disclosed, with some exceptions,” Willhite’s office noted.
