Steve Southerland: Legislature Needs to Focus on Algae Blooms in North Florida

“Our waterways are the lifeblood of Florida,” said Southerland. “They are absolutely key to the health of our economy and to the high quality of life we enjoy. We urge the Legislature to give the same funding consideration to north Florida waterways like the St. Johns River as they have to building reservoirs and cleaning up the tributaries of South Florida."

Florida Delegation Focuses on Water Quality Issues

On Friday, the two chairs of the Florida delegation--Democrat U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings and Republican U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan--announced they would hold a meeting on “some of the most pressing water quality issues affecting the Sunshine State” which will include “red tide, harmful algal blooms, offshore drilling and other water quality issues.”
