The CFO also encouraged consumers to track and report the latest fraud and scam tactics in their communities by using the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Scam Tracker. In partnership with Patronis' "Fraud Free Florida" initiative, the BBB’s online Scam Tracker tool includes an interactive map to help keep Floridians informed of local fraud trends and emerging scams in their area.

On Wednesday, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis highlighted a recent article by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that is advising consumers to stay away from, “You’ve Won! Now Pay Us” sweepstakes or lottery-related scam advisements that aim to defraud Florida consumers.
“Fraud and identity theft rates in Florida are outrageous and totally unacceptable,” Patronis said. “That's why I'm bringing everyone to the table to combat this out-of-control epidemic that targets seniors, businesses, and every Florida family."
Earlier this month, Patronis unveiled “Fraud Free Florida” which is “aimed at better coordinating collective investigative efforts to protect Florida’s large population, especially seniors, from scam artists.”
Patronis applauded telephone companies for their efforts to crack down on robocalls by displaying verified numbers and he called on wireless carriers to waive scam ID fees for seniors.
