Last week, during a U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Joint Subcommittee Hearing on the ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang against Uyghurs by the Chinese Communist Party, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., offered his remarks.

Other backs of the resolution include U.S. Sens. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., Tim Kaine, D-Va., Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Mitt Romney, R-Utah.

Pointing to the Chinese regime’s efforts to crack down on democracy in Hong Kong and against the Uighurs and other Muslim populations in the Xinjiang province, Waltz weighed in on the resolution.

Dahua Technology is a Chinese company that has reportedly developed facial recognition software to recognize and report the detection of Uyghur Muslims to Chinese authorities, facilitating the Chinese government’s ongoing genocide and other crimes against humanity against the Uyghur people.

On the last full day of the Trump administration, the U.S. State Department made that designation on Tuesday. 

Last week, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., wrote a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urging the State Department to shine a light on the severity of Communist China’s oppression and atrocities against the Uyghurs, a religious and ethnic minority living in the northwestern province of Xinjiang, and classify the actions as genocide.

For more than a year, Scott has been calling on the IOC to stand up for freedom and urge Communist China to stop violating human rights, or find a new home for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
