This week, two congresswomen from Florida introduced a bill “to require the Secretary of Defense to swiftly brief key members of Congress if the secretary determines with high confidence that a foreign government is deliberately seeking to kill or severely injure U.S. servicemembers, either directly or indirectly through proxy forces.”

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., focused on the “Assessing China’s Presence and Influence in Latin America and the Caribbean Act,” her proposal to have the federal government “prepare for Congress a comprehensive assessment of China’s efforts to expand its presence and influence in Latin America and the Caribbean and to describe how these efforts could undermine American interests."

Waltz pointed to incidents with the “Corps of Cadets being mandated to attend seminars and presentations on critical race theory that included inflammatory lessons and presentations that are detrimental to the mission and morale of the U.S. Army" and “requested the full presentation of seminars, presentations, assemblies, and other related curricula at West Point” in the letter he sent last week.

After years of carefully crafting her image as someone willing to work across the aisle, U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., is starting to go on at the attack against Republicans as buzz builds that she will challenge U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in 2022. 

Abbott’s attempts to blame the power outages on alternative energy and trying to shift the conversation to bemoaning the Green New Deal is all hat and no cattle. The GOP has been in charge of Texas since George W. Bush sent Ann Richards into retirement back in 1994. Alternative energy sources simply have not made much ground in deep red, oil-rich Texas.

“Created for the first time this Congress, the subcommittee has jurisdiction over military intelligence, special operations forces, counter-terrorism, efforts to stop the production and spread of weapons of mass destruction, and other sensitive military operations,” the congresswoman’s office noted. 

Murphy, who worked at the U.S. Defense Department under President George W. Bush, will serve on the U.S. House Intelligence and Special Operations and the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittees which are both under the umbrella of the Armed Services Committee. The Central Florida congresswoman joined the committee this year.

Waltz announced he will serve on the U.S. House Strategic Forces and the Intelligence and Special Operations (ISO) Subcommittees.
