With 20 Democrats angling for their party’s presidential nomination meeting in two debates in South Florida later this week, some of the underdog candidates are trying to get some attention and momentum in the Sunshine State.

Kicking off his 2020 campaign in front of a packed house at the Amway Center in Orlando, the president began his reelection campaign by telling the crowd there will be a new slogan in 2020: “Keep America Great.”

JFK is, of course, a Democratic icon but he wasn’t exactly a liberal on several fronts, ranging from taxes to foreign policy. While many members of the Cuban community in South Florida still haven’t forgiven JFK for not going all out during the Bay of Pigs operation, DeSantis would be wise to take a few pages out of the 35th president’s playbook.

Biden is currently leading the crowded field of Democratic presidential candidates in polls at both the state and national levels. 

Last week, Florida Atlantic University (FAU) released a poll showing Buttigieg in fourth place in the Florida primary with 9 percent, far behind former Vice President Joe Biden who took 39 percent, but ahead of O’Rourke who pulled 5 percent.

“Joe Biden’s tired record of failed foreign policy and slow economic growth should sound the alarms for hardworking and proud Floridians," Hockenbury said.

This week, Morgan took to Twitter to call the former Tallahassee mayor’s new voter registration drive “phony.”

So far, there doesn’t appear to be much of a demand for a de Blasio campaign. He lags in low single digits in national polls and in surveys of early caucus and primary states like Iowa and New Hampshire.

While more than a quarter of those surveyed--28 percent--are undecided, the rest of the field stand in single digits. 

After the Legislature passed the budget on Saturday, DeSantis had cause for celebration. Most of his agenda--including expanding school choice--sailed through the Legislature.
