Last week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., sent a letter to Vice President Mike Pence and Y.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Sec. Alex Azar requesting the administration shift its approach to measuring hospital bed capacity and expand testing strategies.

U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., wrote President Donald Trump on the matter last week, following up on a letter they sent him back in April. They called on Trump to call fro China to ban live animal markets. Back in November, the two congressmen teamed up with U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Oreg., to introduce a resolution “calling on all nations to end their dog and cat meat trade and to enforce existing laws against the trade.”

On Monday, as riots and protests continue across the nation in response to George Floyd’s murder, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that he was calling up 700 members of the Florida National Guard soldiers and 1,300 Florida Highway Patrol troopers to support local law enforcement efforts.

The Public Opinion Research Lab (PORL) at the University of North Florida (UNF) released a poll on Monday seeing what Florida voters think the coronaviurs pandemic and of how elected officials and public administrators are handling it.

Deutch and Frankel insisted the state has enough kits to test hundreds of thousands of people but only tested 23,723 people to date when they sent the letter to Azar on Thursday.

In the letter, which was led by U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., the members highlighted the need for these resources to be delivered within the next 48 hours and asked for the request to be fulfilled immediately so the Florida government could continue working diligently to combat coronavirus.

After speaking with Florida’s sheriffs and police chiefs, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., sent a letter to Vice President Mike Pence urging the administration to increase domestic production of personal protective equipment and make sure local public safety and law enforcement agencies have all the resources they need to stay safe from coronavirus while helping others.

The event focused on the Trump administration’s efforts to protect American farmers including the impact of the USMCA trade agreement. The event also showcased an event that will be held in Plant City next month from the U.S. Agriculture and Commerce Departments and the Office of the United States Trade Representative which will focus on agricultural trade issues.
