Wasserman Schultz placed behind U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Ct., who will replace retiring U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-NY, as the chairwoman of the powerful committee. DeLauro had more support on the Appropriations Committee, on the Steering and Policy Committee and in the House Democratic caucus.
Crist rounded up more than 85 members of the U.S. House to send a letter to U.S. Sec. of State Mike Pompeo calling on him to send humanitarian relief to that nation.
The bill passed as 224 Democrats voted for it while 189 votes were cast against it as 7 Democrats joined 182 Republicans in opposing it while 17 members did not vote. Party lines held in the Florida delegation though three Republicans from the Sunshine State--U.S. Reps. Neal Dunn, Francis Rooney and Ted Yoho--did not vote. Rooney, who came down with coronavirus and is in his last months in Congress, has missed several votes this year.
Back in November, Wasserman Schultz announced that she wants to be the next chairwoman of the powerful U.S. House Appropriations Committee. If selected by her fellow Democrats and her party retains the House, the South Florida congresswoman will take over as chairwoman at the start of 2021.
The post will be vacant as U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-NY, the current chairwoman, is not seeking reelection in 2020.

Nelson, Rubio and Dunn wrote U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., the chairman of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., the ranking Democrat on the committee, on the matter. Rubio sits on the committee.
Earlier this month, U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Penn., brought out the resolution and had the cochairs of the House of Representatives Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Anti-Semitism, which has more than 100 members, as cosponsors.
