Back in May, U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., introduced the bill with U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., as a cosponsor. Posey reintroduced the bill last week and he and Crist showcased it this week.
This week, Florida’s two U.S. senators--Republicans Marco Rubio and Rick Scott--joined U.S. Sens. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., and Roger Wicker, R-Miss., sent a letter to U.S. Department of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Deputy Secretary Kathleen Hicks requesting that the department assert its commitment to the U.S. Navy’s shipbuilding requirements to ensure America stands ready to deter Chinese provocations and to safeguard the future of freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific region.
The proposal would expand school choice options “by permitting states that have established programs for parents of children with disabilities to use public or private funds for the cost of their children attending a private school to supplement those funds with federal special education funds" and creates more grants for the states to increase school choice.
Several Democrats in the Florida delegation are calling for congressional leadership to back funds for independent and small restaurants as part of any final COVID-19 stimulus deal.
In a letter to U.S. Sec. of State Mike Pompeo and U.S. Treasury Sec. Steven Mnuchin, the senators urge for the use of the Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act, the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, and/or the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Warfare Elimination Act to hold those involved in Navalny’s poisoning accountable, and to deter future attacks.
“The CEOs have not agreed to repeated requests to testify before the Committee on Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which governs how online platforms moderate and display user-generated content,” noted the committee.
“The bill would designate the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as the lead federal agency for marine aquaculture. The legislation would also direct NOAA to harmonize the permitting system for offshore aquaculture for farms in federal waters, and direct the agency to lead a research and development grant program to spur innovation throughout the industry,” Rubio’s office noted.
