First elected to Congress in 2016, Crist has been on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee and the CJS Appropriations Subcommittee since 2019. He’ll serve under U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro Names Florida Democrats to Appropriations Spots, Including Wasserman Schultz Leading a Subcommittee
Naming Democrats to the committee and its various subcommittees, DeLauro announced this week that she is keeping Wasserman Schultz as chairwoman of the U.S. House Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee.
Wasserman Schultz placed behind U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Ct., who will replace retiring U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-NY, as the chairwoman of the powerful committee. DeLauro had more support on the Appropriations Committee, on the Steering and Policy Committee and in the House Democratic caucus.
U.S. Reps. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., John Rutherford, R-Fla., Darren Soto, D-Fla., and Greg Steube, R-Fla., are all cosponsoring the bill.
Back in November, Wasserman Schultz announced that she wants to be the next chairwoman of the powerful U.S. House Appropriations Committee. If selected by her fellow Democrats and her party retains the House, the South Florida congresswoman will take over as chairwoman at the start of 2021.
Now another Democrat from the Sunshine State is being mentioned as Biden’s possible understudy: U.S. Rep. Donna Shalala, D-Fla.
Despite being in her first term on Capitol Hill, U.S. Rep. Donna Shalala, D-Fla., continues to play a major role as Democrats in the U.S. House respond to coronavirus.
While she took aim at the Trump administration on the matter, Shalala also called out some of her fellow Democrats.
The post will be vacant as U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-NY, the current chairwoman, is not seeking reelection in 2020.
Modeling her proposal off of Ros-Lehtinen’s and U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter’s, R-Col., “Deferment for Active Cancer Treatment Act,” U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., was able to include a provision allowing the deferments as part of the minibus.
U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum was able to get the provision included during the U.S House Appropriations Committee markup of the Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies appropriations bill which passed on a voice vote. Congress is expected to pass the minibus before adjourning.
