The event focused on the Trump administration’s efforts to protect American farmers including the impact of the USMCA trade agreement. The event also showcased an event that will be held in Plant City next month from the U.S. Agriculture and Commerce Departments and the Office of the United States Trade Representative which will focus on agricultural trade issues. 

While Democrats on Capitol Hill ripping the new policies, insisting hundreds of thousands of Americans could be taken off SNAP, Purdue insisted it will save billions of taxpayer dollars and encourage more Americans to enter the workforce.

This week, the Florida delegation, led by U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, D-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., wrote U.S. Agriculture Sec. Sonny Perdue requesting the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) increase funding for orange juice purchase in Florida to $90 million, doubling the initial allocation from this past summer.

On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., wrote U.S. Agriculture Sec. Sonny Perdue expressing deep concern with the ongoing housing conditions present in the Okeechobee/Osceola Centers, insisting they are not safe.

DeSantis and Perdue cheered President Donald Trump for signing a $19.1 billion supplemental spending package last week “to assist Americans in recovery efforts from catastrophic disasters over the past three years” which included $480 million to help the timber industry in Northwest Florida recover from the hurricane.

In a letter sent to U.S. Agriculture Sec. Sonny Perdue on Friday, members of the Florida and Georgia delegations urged the administration to aid state governments in crafting effective forest restoration block grants.

Back in November, then Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam announced that Hurricane Michael caused $1.5 billion in damages to agriculture in the Sunshine State with the vast majority of it--around $1.3 billion--damaging the timber and forestry sectors.

The two Democrats from the Sunshine State joined other congressional Democrats on Tuesday in sending a letter on the matter to U.S. Agriculture Sec. Sonny Perdue.

The Trump administration had all hands on deck in Florida to close out the campaign.

Trying to keep the GOP in control of the Governor’s Mansion in Florida, former U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., is calling on Republicans at the national level, including several members of the Trump administration, to help him out in the final days of the campaign against Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum.

While next week’s general elections continue to dominate Florida’s attention, members of the state’s congressional delegation continue to fight to help residents of the Panhandle impacted by Hurricane Michael.
