More than two years after Hurricane Irma hit the Sunshine State, Florida continues to get help from the federal government to deal with its aftermath.

Soto, the first Florida congressman of Puerto Rican descent, released his “Congressional Puerto Rico Recovery Blueprint” on Tuesday to help the island recover from the hurricane which hit in September 2017. 

Turning 41 later this month, Soto has been one of the main political beneficiaries of Central Florida’s growing Puerto Rican population.

Soto’s office noted the congressman will “legislate on a wide range of policy issues with key priorities for Central Florida” and pointed out that the committee “is the oldest continuous standing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and has the broadest jurisdiction of any committee in Congress, and oversees several federal departments and agencies.”

Billing himself the “rockin’ congressman" and finishing his first term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, D-Fla., is engaged in a unique way to get his points across. 

While we’re still more than six weeks out until Election Day, the heavy lifting is over for U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, D-Fla., and he is now able to turn his attention to state and national politics.
