Charlie Crist: Homeland Security Appropriations Bill Contains $7 Million for Tampa International Airport
Crist’s office stressed the importance of the funds to help upgrade security while, on Thursday, the congressman praised the airport for relying on its own funds to upgrade its security after the 9/11 attacks.
Spano applauded the bill for including almost $9.5 billion for mental health services, almost $222 million for suicide prevention outreach and almost $1.9 billon for the VA to help homeless veterans.

“Veterans’ homelessness is also a major problem,” Crist added. “Those who bravely answered the call to serve should never be without a roof over their heads. While the president’s budget zeroed out funding for veterans’ homelessness, we included $40 million to tackle the problem.
“Our servicemembers answer the call of duty and risk their lives to protect our nation. Unfortunately, after military service, too many veterans experience mental health issues, substance abuse, and homelessness,” said Crist.
The bill contains $189.9 billion in base discretionary funding, an $11.8 billion increase from last year and $48 billion more than what President Donald Trump proposed.
Last week, Francis Rooney teamed up with U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., to unveil the “Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy Act” (RAISE Act).
