Florida Delegation Splits on Party Lines On $1.3 Trillion Appropriations Bill

The bill, which covers Defense; Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; Financial Services and General Government; Labor-HHS-Education, and Transportation-HUD funding, cleared the House on a 217-197 vote as 12 Democrats joined every Republican and U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, I-Mich., in voting against it. 

Rick Scott Continues to Stand Against the Peace Corps Operating in China

On Wednesday, Scott came out swinging at the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs appropriations bill which cleared the U.S House Appropriations Committee this week and is now heading to the House floor. Scott denounced the bill which includes a provision to keep the Peace Corps operating in China.

Charlie Crist Announces Federal Funds for Homeless Veterans in St. Petersburg

Crist said the federal government is sending $332,402 to Boley Centers Inc. in St. Petersburg to help homeless veterans enter the workforce. The funds are through a  Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

On Tuesday, Crist said that, as part of the $2.2 trillion stimulus package the White House and Congress agreed to at the end of March, $6.8 million is headed to his district to help the homeless “prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic” with the congressman pointing to the high risks that population faces.

Crist, who represents parts of Pinellas County, announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is sending almost $450,000 to the health centers to “help deliver quality healthcare to under- or non-insured Pinellas residents.”
