This week, U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., the lead Republican on the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee's Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, delivered the following opening statement in a subcommittee hearing on the climate's impact on homeland security.
U.S. Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., who rose to serve as the chief of the Orlando Police Department, announced last week that she will chair the subcommittee which is under the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee.
The bill was showcased on Thursday, stressing many Americans are not prepared for the changes that will take place later this year.
In bringing out the bill, Demings, who served as Orlando’s police chief and sits on the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee, touted her experience in law enforcement as a reason why the bill should pass.
“I am eager to continue my role on the Appropriations Committee to ensure that precious taxpayer dollars are spent wisely while working to promote our national priorities, like a robust national defense, a secure border, and enhanced resources for our veterans,” Rutherford said.
In addition to her new assignment, Demings is keeping her seats on the U.S. House Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees.
