Scott brought out the “Freedom to Fly Act” last week and highlighted it this week.
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., introduced the bill in the U.S. Senate at the end of last month. Rubio has been pushing the “Sustainable Shark Fisheries and Trade Act” since 2018 and he reintroduced it this week.
Murphy introduced the bill last week with Mast and U.S. Rep. Marilyn Strickland, D-Wash., as co-sponsors.
Rubio was the chief sponsor in the Senate while Soto introduced it in the House and the two men reintroduced the proposal at the start of this year. While the U.S. Senate passed the bill at the end of last year the measure did not gain much traction in the U.S. House and failed to cross the finish line.
“The Reduce Impaired Driving for Everyone (RIDE) Act will promote the research and development of advanced alcohol and impaired driving detection technology and will require the implementation of such technology in new motor vehicles," Scott’s office noted.
Rubio is backing U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s, D-Wisc., “Built to Last Act” which they first worked on at the start of last year.
On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. John Rose, R-Tenn., brought out the “Haulers of Agriculture and Livestock Safety (HAULS) Act” with Soto as a co-sponsor.
Back in February, the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, led by U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., launched its Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion Subcommittee. U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., is the first chairwoman of the new subcommittee while Scott leads Republicans on it.
