Members of the Florida delegation from both sides of the aisle continue to focus on Venezuela as chaos continues to engulf that South American nation.
Hastings, who was named senior whip by U.S. House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-SC, last week, reached out to USAID Administrator Mark Green on the matter.
Scott wrote U.S. Sec. of State Mike Pompeo and U.S. Treasury Sec. Steven Mnuchin on the matter, urging them “to consider all options in the fight to begin a new day of freedom for Cuba and Venezuela” which includes “stronger sanctions on Cuba, Venezuela and their allies as the United States works to spread democracy in Latin America and across the globe.”
Feeling shut out by President Donald Trump, Democrats in charge of the U.S. House--including those representing parts of Florida--are offering their own plan to help Venezuela even as they are careful not to speak about any kind of military intervention.
Trump also stressed that the U.S. was ready to help Venezuela with humanitarian aid to help the continued chaos in that South American nation but noted that the Maduro regime remained uncooperative.
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio discussed the ongoing political developments in Venezuela, the new government of interim President Juan Guaidó, and next steps for U.S. policy.
Shalala unveiled the “Venezuela Arms Restriction Act," insisting these “tools are often used by the illegitimate Maduro regime to attack its own people, often with lethal consequences.”
