Florida CF0 Praises Ron DeSantis’ Signature of ‘My Safe Florida Home’ Expansion

Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis praised Governor Ron DeSantis for signing legislation to fund and improve the My Safe Florida Home (MSFH) Program.

“Thanks to Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature, the My Safe Florida Home Program will receive another round of $200 million in funding, beginning July 1, 2024, ” Patronis said. The new funding will provide grants for nearly 20,000 Floridians with special priority going to help Florida’s seniors and low-income homeowners first. There is no better time than right now to harden your home against storms and cut your homeowners insurance costs. Homeowners who completed the program reported an average savings of roughly $1,000 on their insurance premiums. Another hurricane season is fast approaching and unfortunately, Mother Nature loves our state and it’s not if but when a major storm will take aim at Florida. Don’t wait to protect your biggest investment from storms – your home.”

The MSFH program provides free home inspections and up to $10,000 in grants to allow Florida homeowners to guard their home against hurricanes and major storms with home-hardening products, such as impact resistant doors and windows. For some homeowners, those improvements may cut home insurance costs through mandatory home mitigation discounts. The legislation signed into law by DeSantis provides an additional $200 million in funding for the program. According to Patronis, the program has successfully completed more than 104,000 free home inspections, approved more than 38,000 grant applications, and obligated nearly $390 million in home hardening grants since May of 2022. To date, the state has invested more than $600 million in the My Safe Florida Home program to help Floridians harden their homes and reduce insurance costs.
