DEO: Disaster Unemployment Assistance Available to Florida Businesses, Residents Impact by Hurricane Sally
President Donald Trump officially granted a major disaster declaration request. The Department is currently accepting applications for DUA from residents and businesses in Bay, Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Walton counties. Individuals affected in these designated-disaster areas must file DUA applications by November 6, 2020.
On Wednesday, Rubio urged Congress to pass a disaster supplemental bill for communities in North Florida impacted by Hurricane Michael last month.
DUA is available to Florida residents whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted as a direct result of Hurricane Michael which hit parts of the Panhandle last month.
Rubio wrote U.S. Labor Sec. Alexander Acosta on the matter on Friday, calling on him to “approve the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s request to extend the deadline for individuals to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA), as a result of Hurricane Michael.”
