Florida Delegation Introduces Resolution to Welcome Statue of Mary McLeod Bethune to Capitol
On Friday, two members of the Florida delegation--U.S. Reps. Val Demings, D-Fla., and Michael Waltz, R-Fla.--introduced a resolution to welcome the statue of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune to the U.S. Capitol. The statue will be the first statue of a Black American to represent a state in Statuary Hall.

After requesting the removal of the statue of Confederate Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith from the U.S. Capitol and replacing it with civil-rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office said that the statue of the general would be placed as an exhibition at the Lake County Historical Society.
Jacksonville Debates Removing Confederate Monuments as Activists Threaten Boycott
Frazier said for almost two years Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and the Jacksonville City Council have ignored the groups’ calls for taking down the monuments. Frazier has said if the city removes the monuments there will be no boycott.
