The measure cleared the U.S. House in 2019 but did not pass the U.S. Senate. In recent years, Florida’s two U.S. senators--Republicans Marco Rubio and Rick Scott--have pushed the Trump administration to offer Venezuelans fleeing the Maduro regime TPS.

Supporters of the Maduro regime took two-thirds of the seats in the National Assembly as only 31 percent of Venezuelan voters cast ballots. 

Scott appeared on a phone call with the media on Monday, saying there was going to be a “real contrast” between Trump and the Democratic ticket on economic issues and going over the president’s record. 

With a presidential election looming in November, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., is turning up the heat against some top Democrats including that party’s presumptive presidential candidate. 

Scott wants the agencies to look into the services to be performed and the source of the money paid to Amsterdam & Partners to determine if it violates the sanctions imposed against the Maduro regime and whether there is any effort to circumvent FARA regulations.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., weighed in on Tuesday after President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, praising the White House for its support of Interim President Juan Guaidó, who the U.S. recognizes as Venezuela’s leader.
