The impact of these scams has intensified this year as scammers take advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic and financial crisis to exploit jobseekers. Moody is joined by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and other federal, state and local law enforcement partners in Operation Income Illusion.

The court’s order temporarily halts the operation, freezes its assets and appoints a temporary receiver over the business.

The proposed consent decree with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, LLC follows a civil antitrust investigation into whether the health care provider entered into illegal agreements with competitors that allocated geographic or product markets in violation of the Florida Antitrust Act and the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.

Moody announced the Consumer Protection Division “took action in three separate cases to shutdown tech support scams operating in Florida—with the latest court action filed today during National Consumer Protection Week.”
