On Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he will do all he can to stop school mask mandates, saying that every parent should have the right to choose what is best for their child. 

Sarah Ann Painter was selected from among nearly 185,000 Florida public school teachers.

The funds provided through UniSIG will be used to support school improvement initiatives in Florida’s lowest performing five percent of schools. Teachers who teach at these low performing schools and have earned highly effective or effective ratings can receive up to $15,000.

At the end of last week, state Rep. Adrian Zika, R-Land O’Lakes, introduced the “Portraits in Patriotism Act" with the backing of state House Speaker Chris Sprowls, R-Palm Harbor.

Last week, the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), under the leadership of Gov. Ron DeSantis, looked back at its record in 2020 and insisted it continues to serve as a national model for juvenile justice systems. 

The new emergency order creates safeguards to address concerns from parents, and was based on a framework recommended by the Florida Association of District School Superintendents, and strongly aligned with input provided by district financial officers.

The public “beta” version of the portal was first unveiled in early 2019 to take stakeholder feedback, and based on that feedback, improvements and new features were added in August 2019 and October 2020 that make the site even more user-friendly and content-rich.

“As parents, Governor DeSantis and I are passionate about helping Florida’s children reach their full potential. In addition to the value of in-person instruction, this initiative supports children who have already faced significant personal challenges beyond their control,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis.

Available at GetThereFL.com, the initiative highlights the key benefits of rapid credentialing programs available to Floridians at the 28 Florida College System institutions and the 48 technical colleges and centers across Florida.

“Governor DeSantis and I are immensely proud that these funds will be available to support schools in their efforts to help students overcome barriers to achieving positive mental health wellness,” said DeSantis.

The funds are part of $80,684,142 in grants from the Labor Department, including almost 50 Career Services and Training Grants totaling $74,562,142 for and $6,122,000 for nine NFJP Housing Grants.
