NFLT closed on the property which they purchased from the McGehee family who waited years to sell the land to make sure it would be preserved forever. An anonymous donor, a matching donation from Timucuan Parks Foundation, and donations from the community helped the nonprofit reach the $150,000 needed to complete the purchase.

North Florida Land Trust Plans to Conserve the Small Islands in Jacksonville Beach

The nonprofit land conservation organization now must raise $350,000, in just one year, to purchase the property and pay for due diligence and stewardship costs. The property comprised of small wet flatwood islands and saltmarsh is located just north of JTB and is owned by Small Group, LLC. The owner had marketed the property at a purchase price of $3.9 million to build extravagant houses on the nine islands in the marsh. That announcement triggered a significant public outcry.

NFLT, Nassau County Showcase Conservation Lands Acquisition and Management Program

NFLT and the county will host the meetings on Saturday, August 15. The first meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Yulee at the James S. Page Complex at 96135 Nassau Place in the outside tent area. The second meeting will take place in Callahan from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the West Nassau Museum of History in the outside tent area at 45383 Dixie Ave.

North Florida Land Trust Leads Purchase on Turnbull Creek in New Smyrna Beach

The property at State Road 44 and South Walker Drive was the subject of a variety of development plans that failed to come to fruition, but the commercial zoning and 967 feet of frontage on State Road 44, left it vulnerable to development. Once purchased, more than 1,600 linear feet of the creek and upland forests of oaks and pines will be secured from development.
