Buchanan’s amendment would have the Defense Department “examine emergency response capabilities and services currently available at every U.S. military base around the world and to report to Congress on the potential benefits and feasibility of requiring bases to have properly functioning MedEvac helicopters and fully-stocked military ambulances.”

The NDAA cleared the House on Tuesday on a 295-125 vote. 

In a letter to the chairmen and ranking members of the U.S. House and Senate Armed Services Committees, Buchanan detailed the revelations surrounding the case of his constituent, SPC Nicholas Panipinto of Bradenton. He sent a similar letter to U.S. Defense Sec. Mark Esper. The congressman proposed a number of changes to the military’s current training and safety protocols to prevent future deaths.

Last year, Rubio wrote Miami Dade College, the University of North Florida (UNF), the University of South Florida (USF), the University of West Florida (UWF) and Cypress Bay High School on the matter, urging them to close their Confucius Institutes. So far, UNF, USF and UWF have severed ties with their Confucius Institutes.
