Rubio and Posey first introduced the “Flood Insurance Rate Map Interagency Technology (FIRM IT) Act" two years ago, insisting it will “provide Floridians and others who utilize NFIP, with the most accurate data for flood hazard identification.” They reintroduced the proposal last week.
U.S. Rep. French Hill brought back the proposal to make “public the funds obtained in an illegal or corrupt manner held by Iran’s authoritarian, theocratic regime” with Lawson as a co-sponsor.
“There are many barriers in accessing employment opportunities, particularly for communities of color and other marginalized groups,” said Lawson. “Credit history does not prove a person’s ability to perform a job well. When used in employment decisions, credit scores only serve to limit an individual’s opportunity. The Restricting Credit Checks for Employment Decisions Act is a much-needed solution in removing employment barriers and forces companies to place each applicant on a level playing field.”
“This bill forces U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) to take greater action when federal assisted housing properties fail to come into compliance with federal housing laws,” Lawson’s office noted.
“This bipartisan legislation would provide a new source of funding for the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program (Kids First) by redirecting penalties collected from pharmaceutical, cosmetic, supplement, and medical device companies that break the law to pediatric and childhood cancer research," Rubio’s office noted on Monday.
Backers of the proposal noted that more than 43 million Americans have $1.6 trillion in federal student loan debts.
On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., brought out the “Community Bank Deposit Access Act.” U.S. Rep. French Hill, R-Ark., is cosponsoring the bill.
Although the bill still has to face the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, forty members have lined up as cosponsors.
