These drugs will be for individuals who are under the care of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), Department of Children and Families (DCF), Department of Corrections (FDC), and Department of Health (DOH).

Topping the list of priorities are protecting the 2020-2021 Medicaid funding increase, enacting COVID liability protections for long term care, and addressing long term care centers’ workforce challenges by making the Personal Care Attendant Program permanent.

With Mary Mayhew leaving after less than two years to take over as president and CEO of the Florida Hospital Association, on Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis tapped Shevaun Harris to serve as acting secretary of the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).

“Governor DeSantis and I are immensely proud that these funds will be available to support schools in their efforts to help students overcome barriers to achieving positive mental health wellness,” said DeSantis.

“The Task Force thoughtfully constructed a blueprint for the safe reopening of long-term care facilities,” said DeSantis on Tuesday. “Limiting visitation at these facilities was a very difficult decision that took an emotional toll on families and residents, especially on those who suffer from cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer’s. With the right precautions in place, I’m confident we can safely re-open visitation at these facilities and reunite families who have been so patient throughout this process.”

Following a recent request from Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a new federal flexibility to allow hospitals to bill Medicare for a lower acuity hospital stay or establish a rate that may be used in these instances such as an inpatient rehabilitation facility rate.

These rules require nursing homes and assisted living facilities to grant access to the Florida Department of Health or their authorized representative for the purpose of infection prevention and control, including mandated COVID-19 testing of both on-duty and off-duty staff when arranged by the Department.

This statewide resource is comprised of real-time, self-reported bed availability by all Florida hospitals. The dashboard provides Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Department of Health, healthcare providers and emergency management operators with critical, real-time information to better inform state and local planning and response to the need for more hospital beds as they confront COVID-19 in Florida.
