With the presidential contest in full swing and control of the White House and the U.S. Senate up for grabs, eyes will be turned to Capitol Hill in the days to come.

Earlier this month, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-NJ, unveiled the “Safeguarding America’s First Responders (SAFR) Act” which has more than 20 backers in the U.S. Senate including original cosponsor U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla.

Joining more than 10 other senators as a cosponsor, Scott is backing the “Safeguarding America’s First Responders (SAFR) Act" from U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker.

“Age discrimination affects individuals across America, but it’s a particular problem here in Florida because we have a larger percentage of older neighbors,” said Castor. “It’s an insidious problem- as you get older, you might lose your job and then it’s very difficult to get hired back. And even if you do get hired back, it’s rarely ever at the same salary level.

"This bill will provide the U.S. governor of the World Bank with the necessary guidance to uphold U.S. interests and to focus on the bank’s development mission," Rubio said. “For too long, countries like China and Russia have been allowed to exploit the World Bank’s limited resources even after they should no longer qualify for assistance.

Last week, Scott introduced the Improving and Reinstating the Monitoring, Prevention, Accountability, Certification, and Transparency Provisions of Opportunity Zones (IMPACT) Act with Rubio and Republican U.S. Sens. Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Todd Young of Indiana, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Cory Gardner of Colorado as cosponsors.

Earlier this year, Rubio and Grassley urged the HHS Acting Inspector General to examine potential payments made to U.S. entities with partnerships to genomics companies affiliated with the Chinese government, including WuXi and BGI.

This week, Rubio and Grassley wrote U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Acting Inspector General (IG) Joanne M. Chiedi requesting oversight on potential payments made to U.S. entities with partnerships to genomics companies affiliated with the Chinese government, including WuXi and BGI.
