According to numbers from the Federal Election Commission (FEC), at the end of 2020, the Florida Democratic Party (FDP) was underwater with more than $868,000 in debt and the Democratic Executive Committee of Florida had less than $61,000 in cash on hand.
Wasserman Schultz placed behind U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Ct., who will replace retiring U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-NY, as the chairwoman of the powerful committee. DeLauro had more support on the Appropriations Committee, on the Steering and Policy Committee and in the House Democratic caucus.
As we all know, the media is not the final arbiter of who is president. The Electoral College, that entity that the Democrats have despised for four years and threatened to abolish, is one of the final steps in certifying the election after the individual states certify their vote totals. And, of course, there’s always that pesky little group called the Supreme Court of the United States which may still have a role to play.
With all votes counted, Wasserman Schultz took 72 percent while Perelman, a supporter of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., pulled 28. During her tenure as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Wasserman Schultz drew fire for her treatment of Sanders as her ally former U.S. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton won their party’s presidential nomination.
Six months ago, it would have been unthinkable. Democrats would have to run a race where the economy was not the issue. During the Democratic primary debates, the phrase “an economy that works for everyone” continued to emerge.
Earlier this week, reports emerged that parts of the GOP convention, currently scheduled to be held in Charlotte from August 24 through August 27, will be headed to the First Coast even while much of the convention’s business will be held in North Carolina.
At the end of last week, U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., wrote U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, advocating for additional funding for the United States Postal Service (USPS) “in anticipation of the increased demand on the USPS as more states and jurisdictions allow vote-by-mail ballots in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The debates will be broadcast on NBC, MSNBC and Telemundo, will be held in Miami, Florida on back-to-back nights on June 26 and 27.

“I’m also fiercely determined to work diligently, and across the aisle, to ensure that our nation’s veterans and the men and women who serve, get the resources and support they need,” Wasserman Schultz added.
Castor burst onto the national stage last when U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., brought back the Select Committee on Climate Crisis and promptly named the Florida congresswoman to chair it.
On Wednesday, the Gillum campaign announced that former Gov. Terry McAuliffe, D-Va., a possible presidential candidate in 2020, will be heading to Fort Myers on Thursday.
